We decided to take a last-minute vacation to Florida this summer, just Kieran and I. My friend Rose’s parents just bought a new vacation home in Naples, FL and so Rose and her husband Alex invited us down to stay with them there for a week. We thought it was a great opportunity to spend time with our friends and have some adult time away from the kids, so we sent the kids off to camp “Grandma/Papa” and “Nonna/Nonno” for the week and headed south.
The weather was generally grey and rainy, and unbelievably hot. Too hot for me…I was making a beeline for the A/C or shade most of the time. Despite the weather, however, we managed to get in lots of beach time, pool time, eating, shopping, and good laughs with our friends. We also took a day trip to the Everglades and did an airboat tour and swamp buggy tour. It was an area I had been wanting to see for a long time (since the Everglades was all my Ecology professor in grad school could talk about) and I’m glad we went as it was a really educational and interesting experience. We even got to hold a baby alligator!
