My friends at work and I decided to start a book club. We had been talking about it for months and finally had our first meeting tonight at my house. It was such a nice evening, as we talked about the book over homemade pizza and cupcakes. Our first book was “Eat, Pray, Love”. The teacher in me was wanting to prepare some “discussion questions” but in the end I didn’t, and we did just fine talking about our reflections, opinions, favourite parts and characters, and spinoff topics as well.
I feel so lucky to work with such a lovely group of ladies. We are a small staff and we all get along well. I think it’s cool that we are all so different – our backgrounds, our upbringings, where we have lived and travelled, etc. yet we are all friends. I have learned so much from each of them (both personally and as an educator), and feel lucky that I am surrounded by such amazing, strong women each day when I am at work. Our plan is to read one book per month, and each of us will take a turn choosing a book and hosting. Our book for October is the Poisonwood Bible. It’s a long one….wish me luck!
